With its 2,657 gold-plated copper shingles, the Goldenes Dachl golden roof in the centre of Innsbruck’s old town is sure to catch your eye. Built between 1497 and 1500 at the behest of Emperor Maximilian I, the magnificent oriel with loggia is decorated with magnificent frescoes and 18 reliefs skilfully carved from sandstone in late Gothic and early Renaissance style. To protect them from damage, the valuable reliefs were replaced by copies in 1952. Six of the original reliefs can be admired in the nearby museum.
